Questions
Impact Window & Door Questions
Still have a question? Call (786) 661-3188 or email sales@avraxdevelopments.com — se habla español. We answer Mon–Fri 8am–5pm and Sat 9am–3pm.
What does "Miami-Dade approved" mean for impact windows and doors?
Miami-Dade County reviews and tests hurricane-protection products and issues a Notice of Acceptance (NOA) for products that pass its large- and small-missile impact and pressure tests. Products installed in Miami-Dade must carry a valid NOA, and elsewhere in Florida a Florida Product Approval. We give you the NOA or product approval number for every product in your quote.
Which brands do you install?
We install PGT, CGI and ES Windows impact products. Your quote names each product and its approval number.
Do impact windows replace hurricane shutters?
Impact-rated windows and doors are tested to resist wind-borne debris, so under the Florida Building Code they can serve as the opening protection on their own, without separate shutters.
Can impact windows lower my homeowners insurance?
Florida law requires insurers to offer windstorm mitigation discounts. Impact-rated openings are items a wind mitigation inspection can document. The size of any discount depends on your insurer and policy, so ask your agent and schedule a wind mitigation inspection after the work is complete.
Do I need a permit to replace my windows and doors?
Typically, yes. In Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach, replacing exterior windows and doors generally requires a permit and an inspection. We prepare the product approvals, pull the permit and coordinate the inspection through final approval.
I live in a condo. Can I get impact windows?
Yes, we work on condos as well as houses, townhouses and commercial buildings. Condo associations typically have their own rules and approval process for exterior windows and doors, so check with your association first. Your quote lists each product and its NOA or approval number, which associations commonly ask to see.
